Who We Are (Data Controller)

This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is collected, used and protected when you visit or interact with Travel Tyrol at traveltyrol.com. The data controller responsible for your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Austrian Data Protection Act (Datenschutzgesetz, DSG) is:

General Principles

I take the protection of your personal data seriously and only process it in accordance with the GDPR, the Austrian DSG and the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021 (Telekommunikationsgesetz, TKG), in particular its rules on cookies (Section 165 TKG). Where possible, you may browse this website anonymously or under a pseudonym. Personal data is only requested where necessary, for example if you leave a comment, sign up for my newsletter, or enter a competition. It will never be shared with third parties beyond what is described in this policy, except where I am legally required to do so, for example by court order.

Hosting and Server Log Data

This website is hosted by Hostinger. Whenever you visit the site, technical information is automatically collected and temporarily stored in server log files by the hosting provider, typically including your IP address, browser type and version, the referring page, the date and time of the request, and the amount of data transferred. This is processed on the basis of legitimate interest (Art 6(1)(f) GDPR) in keeping the website stable and secure, and is not combined with other data sources.

Comments

If you leave a comment, the comment text, your name and e-mail address, and your IP address are stored to help identify spam and to allow me to respond to you, based on legitimate interest (Art 6(1)(f) GDPR) in running a functioning comment section. Your e-mail address may be checked against the Gravatar service (operated by Automattic Inc., USA) to show a profile picture next to your comment if one is associated with that address; this involves sending a hashed version of your e-mail address to servers in the USA. Comments are kept indefinitely unless you ask me to remove them.

Contact Forms

If you contact me using a form on this website, the information you provide (such as your name, e-mail address and message) is used solely to process and respond to your enquiry, based on your consent and/or my legitimate interest in dealing with enquiries (Art 6(1)(a) and (f) GDPR). This data is kept only as long as necessary to handle your enquiry and any related follow-up, and is not used for other purposes.

If you sign up for my newsletter, I collect your e-mail address (and, where provided, your name) to send you updates about Travel Tyrol. This is based on your consent (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter e-mail or by contacting me directly. Depending on the sign-up form used, this data is processed through Constant Contact, Inc. (USA) and/or MailPoet (which may store data on servers in the EU or USA), under the safeguards described below.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. This website uses a cookie consent banner that lets you choose which categories of cookies, other than strictly necessary ones, you allow, in line with the consent requirement under Section 165 TKG and Art 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the cookie settings available on the website. Disabling certain cookies may limit some website functionality.

Analytics (Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics)

This website uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, services of Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland), part of Google LLC (USA). These use cookies and similar technologies to analyse how visitors use the website, such as pages visited, time spent, approximate location, and device and browser type. This only happens with your consent (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR), given via the cookie banner. Data may be transferred to and processed in the USA; Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, recognised by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of data protection. This website uses social sharing and commenting features (via the Super Socializer plugin) that load the Facebook SDK, provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (part of Meta Platforms, Inc., USA). This allows you to share content or comment using a Facebook account, and involves your browser connecting to Meta’s servers, which may set cookies and transmit some technical data (such as your IP address) to the USA. This website also displays advertising served through Google’s advertising infrastructure (Google Ad Manager), operated by Google Ireland Limited (part of Google LLC, USA), which may set cookies and process data such as your IP address and browsing behaviour to select and measure ads. Both are only intended to be active where you have given consent via the cookie banner (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR); data may be transferred to the USA under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or other appropriate safeguards. Affiliate Links and Booking Widgets

Travel Tyrol earns income through advertising and affiliate partnerships, including GetYourGuide and Travelpayouts, among others. Where a page displays a booking widget, or you click an affiliate link, the relevant partner may set its own cookies and process your data (such as IP address and browsing behaviour) directly, according to its own privacy policy, in order to enable bookings and pay referral commissions. I do not control this processing and recommend reviewing the relevant partner’s privacy policy before making a booking. Where this involves non-essential cookies, it is likewise only activated once you consent via the cookie banner.

International Data Transfers

Some of the service providers named above, in particular Google, Meta and Constant Contact, are based in, or transfer data to, the United States. Where this occurs, it relies on the European Commission’s adequacy decision for the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses under Art 46 GDPR, intended to ensure your data receives a level of protection comparable to that within the EEA.

How Long Your Data Is Kept

Personal data is only kept for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected for, or as required by law. Comments and their associated data are generally kept indefinitely for the ongoing functioning of the website unless deletion is requested. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data collected via Google Analytics is retained for the period configured in that tool (currently 14 months) before automatic deletion.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR and the Austrian DSG, you have the right to:

request access to the personal data held about you (Art 15 GDPR);
request rectification of inaccurate data (Art 16 GDPR);
request erasure of your data (Art 17 GDPR);
request restriction of processing (Art 18 GDPR);
object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art 21 GDPR);
receive your data in a portable format (Art 20 GDPR); and
withdraw, at any time and with future effect, any consent you have given (Art 7(3) GDPR).

Children

This website is not directed at children. In line with Section 4(4) of the Austrian DSG, consent to information-society services given by a child requires that the child be at least 14 years old, or otherwise be given or authorised by a holder of parental responsibility.

I reserve the right to amend this privacy policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the services used on this website or to legal requirements. The version published on this website always applies; please check back periodically to stay informed.
