Soulkitchen Innsbruck – where good food and good company meet

And where you'll find the best brunch in the city

In a city and country where local food like Schnitzel and dumplings take precedence over international cuisine, Soulkitchen in Innsbruck turns every expectation of an Austrian restaurant on its head.

The Raschhofer bar and restaurant in Soulkitchen Innsbruck.

Situated on the outskirts of Innsbruck, it’s hard to describe the essence of Soulkitchen. Is it a burger joint? Is it the best place to sample craft beer? Is it where the health conscious come to eat? Is it a laid-back coffee bar?

The good news is that Soulkitchen is all these things. The name stands for a concept rather than a restaurant, with different offerings under one roof. These offerings are Raschhofer Brew & Cook and Barefoot Coffee, with the health food bar My Indigo thrown into the mix. All of this in a cozy urban industrial space unlike anything else in Innsbruck. And on Sundays and public holidays, the entire space of more than 1,000 m² is turned into the Brunch Boulevard.

Raschhofer Brew & Cook

The “soul” of Soulkitchen Innsbruck is the Raschhofer bar and kitchen. It’s also the first area as you enter, with the bar dominating the centre.

You simply must try a craft beer from the Raschhofer brewery when visiting Soulkitchen Innsbruck.

Rashhofer is best known for their burgers, Schnitzel and Kacheln – large pita-like bread with a variety of fillings from the pizza oven. Since burgers, especially good ones, are scarce on Tyrolean restaurant menus we always opt for one of these. I mostly choose the basic John Boy burger, while C likes the Cheesy Jim or the Hot Wheel (with cheese, bacon, and avocado). The burgers are served in brioche buns.

Barefoot Coffee for a mini-holiday

A coffee bar that also serves cocktails. The aim? To let you pretend that you’re on holiday. In other words, to give you the kick-off-your-shoes-and-relax feeling. You can literally spend all day here – from breakfast to evening.Cappucino from Barefoot Coffee Innsbruck.

They are bottomless during the Brunch Boulevard hours on Sundays.A special breakfast menu is available from 7:30 to 11:00, Monday to Saturday, at Barefoot Coffee in Soulkitchen Innsbruck. During the rest of the day, the same meals as on the Raschhofer menu are available. Essentially, it’s the selection of cocktails, coffees, teas, and rums that makes Barefoot stand out. You can choose from around 50 different rums, starting at € 2,50 for 2cl. The average price of a cocktail is € 7,90.

My Indigo for the health-conscious

Healthy food with an Eastern touch is how I would describe the My Indigo menu. Think sushi and curries (both meat and vegetable) served with rice or couscous.

With the burgers at Raschhofer to lead us astray, we haven’t tried the My Indigo food at Soulkitchen. However, we’ve bought a few takeaway curries and sushi at the Dez shopping centre branch of My Indigo. The curries are tasty, although I’d prefer them to be meatier.

Brunch Boulevard for the best brunch in Innsbruck

We heard so many good things about the Soulkitchen brunch before finally finding out what all the fuss is about for ourselves. The occasion was a visit from a London friend who left by train at lunchtime on a Sunday. He asked to go for an early lunch close to the station. The Soulkitchen brunch seemed like the perfect solution.

We starved ourselves and arrived at Soulkitchen Innsbruck around 10:30. We didn’t book (a potentially big mistake) but were extremely lucky to find a table that was evacuated by early leavers.

How the Brunch Boulevard at Soulkitchen Innsbruck works

  • Report at the front desk (on the day of our visit, on the terrace in front of the main entrance).
  • Give your name if you’ve made a reservation or ask for a table (and hope for the best) if you haven’t.
  • Pay (credit cards are accepted).
  • Hold your arm for a brunch bracelet (like the ones you get in all-inclusive resorts). This is your ticket to everything that is good and wonderful inside Soulkitchen Innsbruck until the clock strikes 13:00.
  • Together with the bracelet, you will receive a chip to trade in at the bar for your free beer or glass of Prosecco.
  • Follow the waiter/front desk operator to your table.
  • Take a tour of the 18 Brunch Boulevard stations placed throughout Raschhofer, Barefoot Coffee, and My Indigo, and… dig in! Good luck in deciding where to start, what to take, and what to leave. It’s literally impossible to try everything.

Our opinion of Soulkitchen Innsbruck

We can recommend Soulkitchen Innsbruck to locals and tourists alike. The waiters are friendly and try their best to speak English if they hear you’re not native German. Some even continue to speak English although we reply in our imperfect German.

Keep in mind Soulkitchen Innsbruck is a trendy, lively space frequented by students and young working adults. This doesn’t mean older people aren’t welcome, but you shouldn’t mind if the music and the buzz are a bit louder than in your average restaurant.

In summer, the outdoor terrace flanking Soulkitchen Innsbruck is a great place to meet for after-work drinks.

Getting to Soulkitchen Innsbruck

[huge_it_maps id=”22″]

By public transport – From the Innsbruck old town, take Bus 4165 (destination Unterperfuss Ortsmitte) in front of the Innsbruck Finanzamt down the road from the Market Square. Get off at Innsbruck Innrain/Campus Wifi. Go the rest of the way on foot by turning left onto Karwendelbögen and continuing straight until you’re almost at the end of the road.

By car – The address for navigation is 118 Egger-Lienz Street (Egger-Lienz-Straße), 6020 Innsbruck. The restaurant is out of sight near the corner of Egger-Lienz Street and Karwendelbögen, in which you turn right. You will see a railway line overhead on your right. Soulkitchen is behind it. There are only a few parking spaces available in next to the restaurant. However, there is a big parking area to your left a hundred or so metres down the road. Inquire within Soulkitchen about the discounted rates for their clients.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday brunch here. Great atmosphere, wide choice of delicious food, and friendly staff – and would you believe it, our young Austrian waiter was a huge South African rugby fan!
